Hello! My name is Andrew Phillips and I am currently a Senior student attending Penn State Scranton. I am very passionate about playing, watching, and discussing sports!

For my semester long topic, I decided to choose how the COVID-19 outbreak is making an impact on the sports industry. As well all know, the virus has made many changes towards our daily lives, and this made a significant impact on how pro sports can continue with their seasons.

As the CDC has been informing us on all of the regulations that we must abide by, organizations such as the MLB, NBA, and NHL have made it clear that they are not allowing any fans in attendance for events. As a matter of fact, the NHL and NBA had decided to continue their seasons by holding a “bubble league”. By implementing the bubble, this means that all players and team officials cannot leave the designated location until the/their teams season comes to a halt. As for the MLB, teams are only playing each other on their respected coasts (East versus East, West versus West). Of course, the MLB is not allowing fans in attendance as well.

All of the sports organizations are COVID testing daily, and if any players or team officials are to test positive, that entire organization will have to participate in the 10–14 day quarantine process just like anyone else who tests positive for the virus.

As many Americans can relate, we tend to glorify these pro-athletes to the fullest, and sometimes tend to forget that they are human-beings that live regular lives just as we do. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of stress and changes to our regular daily lives, but we are striving to grasp the change and live our regular, daily lives.

Here is a link to a post that explains how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting the sports industry:
